Quick Treatment for Restless Leg Syndrome - RLS

I've had Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)on and off for about 5 years, with it getting increasing more frequent. RLS involves nerve damage which makes tired legs cramp, twitch, itch and/or become very achy at night. Many folks with RLS have difficulty sleeping due to a constant need to move the legs. It can involve any part of the leg as well as other areas; mine affects the sides of my thighs and gluts. Some people don't feel the pain until they lie down to bed. For others, it starts earlier in the evening. Mine usually starts around dinner time.

In the past, the best therapy has been a hot bath with essential oils for at least 15 minutes. I also do stretching exercises. This helps a lot during severe bouts. I had tried essential oils with a high menthol content (such as peppermint and eucalyptus) as a liniment, however those oils tend to be harsh on the skin (even well diluted) so I rarely turn to them as main ingredients for body products.

In this last year, my RLS has been almost every night. I wanted a quicker treatment. I did some research on

essential oils that are best for RLS and made a formula using Basil, Cypress, Cedarwood and Vetiver. I chose Grapeseed oil a my fixed oil as it is a light oil, quick to sink in. It doesn't leave skin feeling greasy and it does not wipe off on  my bedding at night.

The next time I got cramps, I rubbed my new formula into my thighs, gluts and the souls of my feet. To my great pleasure the cramps and pain disappeared within minutes. They did start returning two hours later, but another little rub of the fomula put my RLS and myself to sleep. Last week, I traveled to Florida. Usually a plane ride involves me walking up and down the aisle to avoid kicking the seat in front of me the whole way. Before the trip I rubbed my oil into the spots that get sore as well as the souls of my feet. For the first time in years, I was able to sleep on the plane.

I got to Florida and learned that my Mom also suffers from severe RLS (Her's wakes her up in the middle of the night). I had her try my formula and it worked for Mom as well. I left her my bottle of treatment since I can easily make more for myself.

Here is the Recipe and Usage Instructions:

Use a one ounce tinted glass bottle, preferably with a dropper cap.

Fill it almost to the top with Grapeseed Oil

Drop in:

8 Drops of Basil Essential Oil

5 Drops Cypress Essential Oil

3 Drops Cedarwood Essential Oil

4 Drops Vetiver Essential Oil

Put cap on and shake well. Only 3 or 4 drops is needed on each large muscle that aches. Also rub about 3 drops into the souls of your feet (3 drops for both souls: drop on the bottom of one foot and rub your feet together).

The Basil, Cypress and Vetiver help with the pain and the Basil, Cedarwood and Vetiver help with relaxation and sleep. The overall blend smells woody and deep. In this blend I use twice as many essential oils than I would use in a massage oil, however I use much less oil per application than with a massage or skin oil.
