Essential Oils for Healing from Injuries

About six weeks ago, my building's fire alarm went off while I was taking a lazy Sunday nap. As I went

down the stairs in my socks, I slipped, fell down about 5 or 6 stairs and landed on my left hand which is my writing hand. I immediately iced and elevated my swollen and painful hand. I also held it under running cold water periodically instead of icing. The next day it was still swollen and badly bruised. I followed up with my doctor and x-rays and found out I had fractured my ring finger in three places. I was offered surgery (involving screws in my hand) to heal

quicker. I was told with surgery I could heal in about 2 weeks, rather than months. I decided to

trust in natural healing, By wearing a

protective splint and using ice, elevation and essential oils I am 95% healed in only six weeks with no screws in my hand which could cause problems down the road.

I soaked my hand in healing essential oils and water while in the bathtub and I mixed essential oils with grapeseed oil and rubbed directly on the injury under my splint. The oils I used were: Lavender, Hyssop, Geranium, German Chamomile, and Lemongrass. See why I choose them below. Also, read the list of other recommended essential oils that may be used for healing injuries more quickly. It is always a good idea to see your doctor even if you think it is just a sprain. I thought mine was just a sprain, but the x-rays told a different story which led me to wear the splint and faster healing. Here's how common Sense and common scents work together.

Oils I used to heal Brusing:

Lavender: Lavender was an easy choice. It helps heal bruising and swelling. It is very gentle on skin and smells wonderfully refreshing and relaxing. You can also turn to this oil for healing burns, cuts, scrapes, and other minor skin injuries.

Geranium: Geranium is so balancing. I choose it because it is another gentle oil that helps bruising. It can be used as a natural antiseptic. Like Lavender, it is also a great choice for healing minor burns and skin injuries.

Hyssop: Hyssop literally translates to "Holy Herb". It also helps heal bruising and is used to treat burns wounds.

Oils I used to Reduce Swelling:

German Chamomile: German Chamomile is velvety blue oil—it's aroma is warm with a pleasant medicinal undertone. It is extremely gentle and oil is recommended to heal inflammation and for cell regeneration. Like all the oils above it is also recommended to heal burns and skin injuries.

Lemongrass: Lemongrass has a uniquely sharp, but lemony scent. I use this oil for so many things, but until my injury, I did not realize it was used to treat swelling and to help heal ligaments and connective tissue. It also kept my splint smelling fresh and deodorized.

Lavender: See above as this helps the swelling and bruising.

The oil I used to heal ligaments and connective tissue:

 Lemongrass: See above under swelling.

Other Essential Oils recommended for healing Bruising, Sprains, and Strains are:

Arnica,  West Indian Bay Clove Bud, cypress, eucalyptus, fennel, ginger, helichrysum, marjoram, nutmeg, pine, peppermint, rosemary, and vetiver
