 The Honey Bath

I've been curious about using honey in home-made natural body products. I have heard that honey is great for skin; that it helps skin feel soft and retain mositure; it is an antioxidant which helps prevent skin damage; and that is can treat acne.

Last night I started experimenting with a Honey Bath. 


- I put about 1/8 of a cup of honey into a mug.
- I dropped in these Essential Oils (see descriptions below):


  • 2 drops Balsam Peru 
  • 8 drops Lavender
  • 5 drops Mandarin
  • 3 drops Lemon

- I heated up water in my tea kettle and filled the cup with boiling hot water
- I mixed it well with a plastic knife
- I poured this mixture into my Bath Water
- I relaxed for 45 minutes making sure to splash the water on my face a lot.

I definitely smelled the sweet, floral, citrus bouquet of the honey and oils. It did not feel sticky at all. In fact, I didn't need to even rinse after my bath. 
My skin felt soft, but not greasy at all. My pores were very clean. And, the tiny bumps I sometimes get where my thighs meet my bum were gone -- just smoothed away. 
Experiment Successful; I will be doing that again!

About the Essential Oils

Balsam - Peru:  Heavily vanilla balsamic, this essential oil is warming, opening, and comforting. It has expectorant qualities and is used to treat respiratory conditions, such as asthma, bronchitis, and coughs. Its sweet vanilla undertone can produce a relaxed mood. It has healing properties and when mixed with carrier oil can be of great aid to dry, cracked, winter skin. It helps to heal sores, wounds, eczema and rashes. 
Lavender: Highly floral and mildly herbaceous, lavender is considered the most versatile essential oil. It is said to balance one’s energies: stimulating if tired, and relaxing if stressed. It is excellent for treating scarring, acne, burns, eczema, psoriasis, wounds and more. It is great to use to in soaps, baths, or skin ointments to maintain healthy skin. It is known to help with a variety of problems including: anxiety; depression; feelings of fear, anger, aggression, & irritability, insomnia and headaches.

Lemon: Lemon has a light, clean citrus scent which can enliven us. It’s an excellent oil to add to cleaning products as it can cut grease while deodorizing. It is often employed to help fight infections during the cold and flu season. It is used to help reduce water retention. Its scent is recommended to help ease mental blocks, lethargy, and stress. Its scent may enhance memory, clarity, and concentration. In skin care it is used to treat acne, cuts, oily skin, warts and more.

Mandarin: This light, sweet, citrus oil is often employed to fade stretch marks & scars, as well as to help relieve fluid retention. It is used to treat acne, congested pores and oily skin It’s scent is very relaxing. This very gentle oil is one of the few recommended for young children (toddlers and up). It’s scent is used to aid depression, anxiety, and feelings of emptiness.
