Natural Ingredients Used and their Healing Properties

Castile soap contains the saponified oils of natural components like coconut (Cocos nucifera), olive (Olea europaea), jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) and aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis miller). It is a very gentle, natural way to clean your skin and hair.
Coconut Milk or Cream (Cocos nucifera): Use Coconut Cream if your hair tends to be on the dryer side as it has a higher fat content. You may need to melt it in the microwave oven for 10-20 seconds so it will liquify before mixing with castile soap. Both Coconut Milk and Cream add moisture and help keep hair manageable during shampoo making it easier to rinse and comb out. It is said to help prevent baldness. It adds protein to your hair and is recommended to help restore dry, damaged, hair.

Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera): This oil smells delicious, sort of like a Mounds™ bar. It's great for skin and scalp. It has anti-fungal properties which can help alleviate certain types of dandruff. You have to be careful when mixing essential oils with coconut oil so the scents won't clash. I find Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Geranium go nicely.

Lecithin (phosphatidylcholine) is basically a fatty protein. It is found is a variety of plants and animals. The kind I use consists of egg yolk and soy protein. It has numerous benefits for hair. It softens hair, keeps moisture in hair, reduces frizz, binds split ends, and adds strength and sheen to hair. use it to turn normal, natural unscented conditioner into super conditioner.

Argan Oil (Argania spinosa)Made from the kernels of the Argan tree, this oil is fabulous for skin, hair and scalp. To moisturize your scalp and wash away flakes, massage Argan oil into your scalp at least an hour before you shampoo it out. You can also easily get rid of frizzies, by rubbing a drop in your hands and then smoothing it onto the frizzy spots of your hair.

Products to Make

To make a gentle shampoo, I mix 25% coconut milk or cream to 75% castile soap and then add ten drops of essential oil for each ounce I am making. So if you are making a 16oz bottle use 12 ounces Castile soap, 4 ounces Coconut milk or cream and 160 drops of the essential oils your choice.
To make conditioner I use a natural, unscented conditioning base, Lecithin, and 10 drops of Essential Oils per ounce I make. I like to make conditioner in a 1 and 1/2 cup plastic bowl with a snap on lid (the kind used for food storage).
I use either Argan and Coconut Oil to make pre-shampoo scalp treatments. I use a drop of Essential oil per Tablespoon I make.

Detangling Hair Misters are great for some instant shine and manageability.  I used distilled water and essential oils. I use 10 drops of essential oil per ounce I make.

Here are a few recipes for different hair types. Please note, these recipes are for Adults with no skin sensitivities to Essential Oils.

Scalp Treatment for Dandruff and Dry Scalp: 3 tablespoons of Argan Oil mixed with 2 drops of Cade and 1 drop Cedarwood Essential oil. Massage into scalp. Leave in for at least an hour, but the longer the better.
Scalp Treatment to accelerate  Hair Growth: 3 tablespoons of coconut oil. One drop, Rosemary, One drop Ylang Ylang, One drop Patchouli.
To use: Massage into scalp. Leave in for at least an hour, but the longer the better. Massage every half hour or so as you leave it in.
Shampoo for Normal to Oily Hair:  In an 8 ounce bottle mix 6 ounces and castile soap with 2 ounces of coconut milk. Mix in 40 drops of Geranium, 20 drops of Lemon, and 20 drops of Orange.

Shampoo for Dry Damaged Hair: In an 8 ounce bottle mix 6 ounces of castile soap with 2 ounces of coconut cream.  Mix in 20 drops of Balsam Peru, 25 drops of Lavender, 25 Drops of Ylang Ylangand 10 drops Frankincense.

To use: Shake well before each use as the coconut milk or cream separates from the soap. Then simply lather, rinse, and repeat. Try to give your scalp a good massage as you lather. You may comb out your hair as you rinse if you wish; the coconut product helps keep hair manageable during the wash and rinse.

Conditioner for  Thick Hair or Black Hair: Pour in about 6 ounces of a natural unscented conditioning base. Add in about a tablespoon of lecithin. You may also add about 1/2 teaspoon of Argan oil.  10 Drops of Lemongrass, 15 drops of Rosemary, 15 drops Ylang Ylang, 10 drops Patchouli, 5 drops Carrot Seed, 5 drops Patchouli. Mix with wood or plastic spoon. Put lid on and shake vigorously.

Conditioner for Thinning Hair: Pour in about 6 ounces of a natural unscented conditioning base. Add in about a teaspoon of lecithin. 20 drops Rosemary, 20 drops Ylang Ylang, 15 drops Clary Sage, 5 drops Patchouli.  Mix with wood or plastic spoon. Put lid on and shake vigorously. When you use this conditioner make sure to massage into scalp to stimulate hair growth.
To use as a Deep Conditioner, squeeze out excess water after shampoo. Add a generous amount of conditioner to saturate your hair. Put a head towel on and leave in for at least 1/2 hour, but the longer the better. I like to leave it in while a take a long bath and rinse my hair with fresh water right after my bath.

To use as an Instant Conditioner, squeeze out excess water after shampoo. Use enough conditioner to cover hair. Leave in 1-3 minutes. Comb Through and rinse out.
To use as a leave-in Conditioner: For medium length hair use about a dime size amount. For long hair use a nickel size amount. Rub into palm of hands and then over the top of your hair and all through. Or use can add just a drop to a small frizzy spot. Add more on dry ends if needed.

Detangling Mist for extra Shine: Fill a 2.5 ounce mister bottle almost to the top with distilled water: Add in 7 drops of Lemongrass, 9 drops of Rosemary, and 9 drops of Ylang Ylang. Put top on and shake.
To  use: Mist on Wet or Dry Hair and Comb Through.
